No better way to kick off the weekend…

So…if you don’t know this about me already, music is my life! I grew up attending jam sessions at a young age. My dad was the drummer of a pretty cool Cincinnati band in the 90s, Leap Skyward. The band won a Cammy (Cincinnati Grammy). They also opened up for some amazing bands…Motley Crew is just one name to drop!

I looked up to my dad, If you asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up between the ages of 4-13…I would have said a rock star! I only end my rock star dreams around the age 13 because at 14 my dream job was to become a stunt car driver…my mom told me no. It’s kind of cool how those dreams came full circle to me as an adult. I now see my self as a rock star behind the wheel performing my killer playlists for my dash board & any one in traffic who catches a glimpse. In my head I drive as good as a stunt car driver.

I digress…

My boys absolutely love music as much as me. Everything we do requires a playlist. We celebrate any occasion with a dance party. The best movies have the best soundtracks. We even sing our conversations sometimes..that’s kind of embarrassing! Over all, I’ve taught them at a young age…music is life. (I’m listening to Bob Marley & The Wailers as I type this!)

Music heals, inspires, motivates, gets you hype, helps you relax, and even helps you learn!

We discovered an amazing music class last summer.

The boys instantly fell in love with the “rock out” mentality of learning about: shapes, numbers, other countries, cleaning up, instruments, and so much more! This music class is brought to you by a 3 piece band: guitar, keyboard, and drums. They play a mix of original songs & fun classics! When they played “3  little birds” by Bob Marley I freaked out inside…I have just as much fun as the kids! I watched my boys bloom from the very first class! This class brought out their silly, courageous sides. They would  grab an instrument to play & run back to me with the biggest smiles…pure joy! The boys and I had a blast last summer thanks to Songs For Seeds! They discovered a deeper love for music. My dad even gave them his rock star drum set! Only one rule: no playing after dark!

Jax doesn’t have school on Friday’s. He has finally recovered from his back to back pneumonia and ear infection. So today, we decided to visit our friends at Songs For Seeds! Jax was in heaven. The class was full of friends to jump and dance with. As I sat back and watched him enjoy the music…I couldn’t help but be overwhelmed with emotion. Jax was recently diagnosed with an IEP in speech. He was a little delayed when it came time to talk & now he can be very hard to understand. Family and friends often look at me with confusion when he talks to them. Half of the time, I don’t even know what he’s saying. It’s been rough. He is getting weekly speech therapy that is helping tremendously, but as a mom you can’t help but wonder, “what did I do wrong?” & “what can I do now?”

Music.

When Jaxon is singing along…it’s amazing. He can hear a song and memorize the words in no time! What better practice? He’s happy, dancing, and singing along! Today was such an amazing way to kick off the weekend! Seeing my boy singing, dancing and having a blast. What more can I ask for?

Check out our vlog of the day here!
