Weekend Getaway To Indy

Two weekends ago Derrek and I took the boys on a road trip. Derrek had been planning a little day trip for us to go to the Outdoor, Travel and Boat Expo in Indy. I typically like to take things to the next level so as soon as he told me he was planning a day trip, I was thinking over night trip. I googled some places to stay and not much stood out to me. Last minute, I was on Instagram and noticed one of my favorite Indy bloggers to follow Kathleen Post (click to follow her, she’s adorable!) shared her stay at Iron Works hotel. Her photos of this hotel gave me all the feels. After seeing the decor and visiting Iron Works website, I knew we had to stay.

We were so glad we ended up making the day trip to the expo into an over night stay. The expo was nothing the husband was expecting. He was thinking it would be like the larger city expos with actual brands there. He’s shopping for a new kayak and wanted to ask the brand reps about the products. Since the expo was a flop we didn’t stay as long as we were expecting.

We grabbed late lunch and milk shakes and headed to the hotel. As soon as we walked in I was in love. The esthetic is simply stunning. Iron Works is an industrial building inspired by 19th century architecture. Every detail of the hotel lobby is perfected and so simple at the same time. Can I also add? It smells like heaven in this hotel! I wanted to bring the scent back home with me.

Jaxon walked in our room and said “This is what I’ve dreamed of!” -Me too kid, me too!-

Check out my Instagram Highlight titled INDY for my IG story of our stay.

Stay tuned for a YouTube vlog of our stay coming to Derrek’s channel.

We had planned to get out and explore Indy and grab dinner. Once we got settled in the room, we didn’t want to leave! It was just too fabulous. Derrek and I showered in the amazing rain forest shower. We put on our comfy Iron Works robes, snuggled up & watched movies with the boys. It rained that night. Watching the rain in the huge window was so amazing. I slept like a baby! The boys loved the large table in the room. They sat together and colored while watching Hop the next morning.

We ordered room service breakfast from the restaurant located in the hotel: Rise.

It was the perfect way to start the day. Breakfast was a little pricy but I justified it by comparison. This hotel was a tad more affordable than others I found. Getting room service probably brought our stay total about equal to a regular hotel with free breakfast. The “free breakfast” we would have received somewhere else would have never been as good as our Rise breakfast in bed! A regular hotel would have had NOTHING on Iron Work’s aesthetic and feel of home. It was definitely worth the splurge. I’m wishing I could have room service breakfast like that everyday.

Trevor played blog photographer at the hotel Sunday morning. Check out his portfolio below:

I highly recommend Irons works Hotel! The staff was just as welcoming as the hotel it’s self. We were all so sad to leave! Trevor and I were trying to figure out how we could work out arrangements to live there. Although we only went to Indy to really do what we do at home (eat sleep watch movies) It was the BEST way to recharge the batteries and get away from reality.

I can’t wait to come back. I want to come back and take the boys to the Indianapolis Children’s Museum and/or the Zoo! There’s also a spa also located inside the hotel. I’m thinking this would be the perfect place to have a girls weekend away or somewhere Derrek and I can get a weekend alone still so close to home.

If you’re looking for a unique place to stay in Indy, you can’t go anywhere else!

Derrek and I are running in the Run for Epilepsy in Columbus next month and planning to stay the weekend. Does anyone have any Columbus hotel recommendations? I’d highly appreciate them!
