Six months ago the hubs and I planned to participate in the Run to Erase Epilepsy 5k. It was being held in Columbus, Ohio so we decided to plan a weekend getaway! I reached out to my Columbus babes for recommendations for places to stay. They all said we had to stay at The Joseph. They were not wrong. It was absolutely beautiful, and the perfect getaway!
Back Story: I have Epilepsy. I was diagnosed after having Jax. We don’t know why. I’ve had all the MRIs, EEGs, ETCs…and they show no reason for me to be having seizures (This is pretty typical for most with epilepsy, but I do wish I had an answer.) Today my seizures are under control with daily medication. My Epilepsy journey has been a rough one….but it has TRULY brought me to where I am today. The very spot in which I came to be so close to Columbus. When I was diagnosed with epilepsy I felt defeated and betrayed by my body & brain. I started attending art therapy through the Epilspy Foundation of Greater Cincinnati and Columbus. It was amazing! This art therapy truly helped me explore ways to cope with the changes ahead. After therapy had ended I decided to start blogging my epilepsy journey as a way to heal and deal. Blogging led me to find Jennifer of TheBBTee located in Columbus. She reached out as she started a new clothing line and needed some bloggers to spread the word. Come to find out, she was a brain tumor survivor! Yes, you read that right! She’s a miracle and I am so happy we connected. Because of Jennifer I came to Columbus for the first time last year and got to meet her IN REAL LIFE and some amazing Columbus bloggers. I ended up making true connections with these women who continue to inspire me today! Soooo I sit back and have a total brain explosion thinking about the journey that led me to these AMAZING women! Because of epilepsy (something I thought ruined my life and held me back) I jolted forward farther than I ever dreamed. Blogging became way more than a way to cope with Epilepsy!
We came into Columbus Friday night and stayed through Sunday afternoon. We were in and out a lot during our stay. We came for the run that was Saturday morning, but in typical ddotts fashion, I planned two photo shoots and a brunch while we were there in Columbus. It was also my husbands birthday Saturday. I planned all of these things for us to do without even looking at where they were from the hotel (sounds like something I’d do) We got so lucky, The Joseph was literally right around the corner from it all! The location of this hotel is on point! It’s right in the heart of everything you need to do and see.
The view from our room was beautiful and lively! I loved watching the hustle and bustle of people up and down the street. I’m still missing the amazing shower, cozy bed, and illy espresso. Take me back.
You don’t need to go far for anything! There’s an art gallery on the second floor. We checked it out Saturday night after dinner and drinks. We enjoyed dinner across the street at The Pearl. It was fantastic. We came back for a few drinks at the bar located in the hotel lobby (SOUL) We had an amazing bartender. Kurtis was so friendly and chatted with us about places we have to check out in Columbus. He really made us feel welcome. The environment was so nice. The hubs and I sat on a couch in the lobby and chatted and laughed. We honestly don’t get to do that much having 2 boys. We are always mom and dad. Just hanging out the two of us for a weekend being Shelbie & Derrek was much needed!
All of the staff was amazing! Blair welcomed us with highfives and fist bumps as we came in and out. The lobby is stunning with art everywhere. The valet people were on it. We were spoiled! I’m trying to calculate how we could make it work to live in a hotel permanently!
If you’re staying in Columbus, the place to stay is The Joseph! It’s right in the heart of everything you could want to do and see: Cosi, beautiful river front parks, shopping, dining, and more. Fair warning: you won’t want to leave! I’m already planning my next trip back for the Ohio Maker Mart in June. Columbus is so charming & The Joseph is just that.
